K2 Psych Services
Practice Closure & Important Update
Dear Clients, Families, and Community Members,
Building K2 Psych Services and working alongside so many wonderful children, teens, adults, and parents has been an extraordinary privilege. Providing both therapy and comprehensive psychological evaluations to our community has brought me immense joy. To every individual and family who has trusted me with your care: thank you. Witnessing your growth, strength, and perseverance has truly been the highlight of my professional life.
It is with this deep appreciation, alongside excitement for what lies ahead, that I am writing to share that K2 Psych Services will be closing permanently in October 15, 2026.
Beginning a new professional chapter, I am joining the faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I am deeply passionate about returning to hospital-based care and look forward to collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support and expand community-based mental health services through the University of Maryland Medical System.
To help guide your transition, please review the information below regarding practice timelines, medical records requests, and referral resources for ongoing care.
Thank you again for the privilege of being a part of this wonderful community and for the trust you have placed in K2 Psych Services over the years. Please know that I hold the warmest wishes for everyone’s continued health, growth, and well-being moving forward.
Sincerely,
Dr. K
Your Questions, Answered
-
All active therapy sessions will conclude by October 15, 2026. If you are currently undergoing a psychological assessment or evaluation, your testing and final feedback session/report will be completed prior to practice closure.
-
Unfortunately, no. Dr. K’s new clinical role within the hospital system is specifically structured to serve state-designated Medical Assistance populations under strict program guidelines. Because of these regulations, private practice clients cannot be transitioned to that setting, and commercial insurance cannot be accepted.
-
Dr. K is actively working with all current therapy clients and families during ongoing sessions to create individualized transition plans and provide tailored referrals to trusted local colleagues and group practices.
-
To request a copy or transfer of records, please submit a written request or signed Release of Information (ROI) form to drkara@k2psychservices.com (please allow 5 to 10 business days for processing).
When requesting records, you may choose between full clinical records or a Treatment Summary:
Full Clinical Records: Contains complete administrative and session chart documentation.
Treatment Summary: A tailored document prepared by Dr. K that synthesizes therapy goals, diagnostic context, key progress, effective interventions, and ongoing care recommendations.
For therapy clients transitioning to a new clinician, a Treatment Summary is often significantly more helpful and actionable for incoming providers than raw chart notes. Dr. K is currently preparing these summaries for all active therapy clients as part of their transition planning, but she is also glad to draft a treatment summary for former therapy clients upon request to assist with future care.
-
All clinical records will continue to be stored securely and confidentially in compliance with Maryland law (Md. Code Ann., Health-Gen. § 4-403). Records are retained for 7 years for adult clients. For minor clients, records are retained until the client reaches age 25 (the age of majority plus 7 years), or 7 years after the record was created, whichever is later.
